Shaikha Al Mazrou (b.1988) received her MFA in 2014 from the Chelsea College of Fine Art, University of the Arts, London where she was awarded the prestigious MFA Student Prize. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, from the College of Fine Arts and Design, University of Sharjah.
In her practice, Al Mazrou, often combines mass-produced materials such as electronic waste or construction materials to create abstract geometric arrangements. She defies easy categorization with sculptural explorations that are simultaneously light-hearted and serious, oscillating between the conceptual and the material. This tension produces an interplay of form and volume, surface and void, material and concept.
Al Mazrou’s group exhibitions include, ArtDubai Contemporary, Lawrie Shabibi, Dubai, UAE (2015); A Public Privacy, UAE Unlimited Arab Exploration, DUCTAC, Dubai, UAE (2015); Past Forward, Contemporary Art from the Emirates, Fowler Museum, UCLA, CA, USA (2015); Make Art Possible, Jalila Cultural Centre for Children, Dubai, UAE (2014); 1°International Arezzo Biennial of Art, Italy (2013); Art Dubai (2013); 14th Asian Art Biennale, Bangladesh (2010); Sharjah Art Museum, UAE; and Museum of Modern Art, Germany(2010).
