Walid Al Wawi

Walid Al Wawi (b.1988) is a Jordanian Palestinian-native, currently living in the U.K., pursuing his MFA at Central Saint Martins College of Art, London.

In his work, Al Wawi experiments with human documentation through video, photography, text and installation, to address questions of hybridization of modern Middle Eastern identity and the implication of the geo-political claustrophobia upon cultural naturalization. His work is recognized for its minimal approach, political views, and ideas on the human condition.

Walid was awarded The Sheikha Manal Young Artist award for his piece Place the Dots (2011). He was a participant in the Salama bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship (SEAF) programme, and a residency in 2012 led to his first solo show. He has participated in group exhibitions, contributed to international and local art festivals, and made his first live performance at Foire Internationale d'Art Contemporain, Paris (2014). His artwork is represented in the collection of His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
