Hind Mezaina is an artist and writer living and working in Dubai. She is interested in cultural memory, change, the notion of heritage, and the representation of Dubai in the media. In her photography and site-specific installations she communicates anxieties regarding the accelerated changes Dubai is undergoing.
Mezaina received the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Emerging Artists Fellowship (2015-2016) in partnership with the Rhode Island School of Design. Residencies include A.i.R Dubai, (2015), The Delfina Foundation, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and Tashkeel, and she has contributed to Art Dubai’s Global Art Forum in 2012 and 2014.
Mezaina has participated in photography group exhibitions in Dubai, London, Tokyo, Berlin, and New York. Her work and writing have appeared in local and regional publications, and her award winning blog theculturist.com covers cultural news, events, reviews in the U.A.E. and beyond – with an emphasis on film, music, photography and travel.
Currently she is a participating artist in this year's Sharjah Biennial 2017 curated by Cristine Tohme entitled "Tamawuj". She will also be involved in the UAE National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2017 curated by Hammad Nasser, entitled "Rock, Paper, Scissors: Positions in Play".
Hind will be be participating in the Venice Biennale.
