Alaa Edris

Alaa Edris (b. 1986) is a visual artist from the United Arab Emirates. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of Fine Arts & Design at the University of Sharjah, with a concentration in electronic media. 

In her often self-reflective work, Edris utilizes video installation, photography and projection mapping onto established spaces, to address themes of gender construction, the interplay of tradition and progress, and the language & symbology of cultural identification.

Her work has been exhibited in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs in Italy, the United Kingdom, Turkey and the U.A.E..

Edris was a participant of the Salama bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship (SEAF) programme (2014-2015), and was Maraya Art Centre’s Artist-in-Residence at FARE, Milan (2016).
